Overview

To make a compelling case for increasing climate research funding, SilverLining partnered with Graphicacy to turn their roadmap into a visually engaging, scientifically accurate, and actionable report. The result was a 51-page report filled with explanatory graphics that helped translate complex climate intervention concepts into clear visual stories targeted at decision-makers.

Background and Challenge

Climate change doesn’t need to be proven, it needs solutions. SilverLining, a nonprofit focused on advancing actionable climate science, published a major report: “Near Term Climate Risk and Intervention: A Roadmap for Research, U.S. Research Investment and International Scientific Cooperation.”

Their challenge: how to convey complex research and technical recommendations to federal decision-makers, including the EPA, DoE, DoD, and DARPA. The report called for a $13 billion investment over five years to fund proven technologies like solar climate interventions but to be effective, the message needed to be clear, digestible, and visually impactful.

Opportunity and Solution

SilverLining turned to Graphicacy for help. Our team designed the full layout of the 51-page report, developing data visualizations, infographics, and custom illustrations that brought the recommendations to life. Key visuals included:

  • Solar Climate Intervention Diagram – Highlighting three major technological pathways: aerosol injection, cirrus cloud thinning, and marine cloud brightening.

  • Research Area Icons – Custom-designed to represent various recommended investments, including field testing and computer modeling.

  • Infographic-Driven Layout – Structured to make policy recommendations easy to understand and act on.

Beyond visual storytelling, Graphicacy delivered a polished and professional report, print- and web-ready, on a tight timeline. Working closely with SilverLining’s team, we ensured scientific accuracy and visual clarity while crafting a final product that policymakers could easily use as a practical toolkit.
